ARMENIAN NATIONAL CULTURAL CENTER OF UZBEKISTAN

During the times of living in Uzbek lands the Armenians carefully prevented and passed to their children, grandchildren and grand-grandchildren the history and culture of their nation. But they had no chance o study and promote them at the governmental level.
Only in 1989 thanks to the far-seeing and perspective lational policy by Islam Karimov, the first Armenian national cultural center was opened in Tashkent. And now there are already four - in Tashkent city, Samarkand, Andijan and Bukhara provinces.
Mutual understanding and respect reigning within the diaspora allow the Armenian Cultural Center of Uzbekistan, which was created in 2000, to conduct successful and active work on teaching the Armenians their native language, history, culture and traditions.
The Armenian cultural centers pay great attention to upbringing and education of the young generation. The Armenian Sunday Lyceum works in Tashkent from 1994, in Samarkand, Bukhara and Andijan function Sunday schools.
Libraries, dancing groups, cookery and housekeeping hobby groups function within the centers. There are also football, arm wrestling and volleyball groups. Diaspora is naturally proud of its ensembles "Ardzagank", "Elegant", "Ani", "Artzah" and "Gyumry", theatre of miniatures "Horovatz-show", schoolchildren choir "Aragatz". "Tashkent Armenians* KVN team {Club of blithe and smart) was created in February of 2001 and has become very popular in the republic.
