ASSOCIATION OF KOREAN CULTURAL CENTERS OF UZBEKISTAN

Nowadays the Korean diaspora in Uzbekistan is the largest in the CIS and the fourth in the world (after China, the USA and Japan). Over 85% of the diaspora are those who were born after the deportation and who consider Uzbekistan as their motherland.
The Association of the Korean Cultural Centers of Uzbekistan exists already for 12 years. Today, when the Association has its own premises not only administrative staff may work there, but also some other societies are located: editors of the paper "Koryo Sinmun" established in 1997, the scientific society "Tinbo", guilds of creative workers, a library and a com-puter class.
One of the main activities of the Association is education, in Uzbekistan the Korean language is introduced in the curriculum.
Together with the Fund for Support of Koreans Abroad and the Embassy of the Republic of Korea the Associa-tion conducts charity work involving such measures as rendering support to low-income families, students, pu-pils and aged people.
The Association intensively develops relations with the historical motherland, delegations travel in both directions, the Koreans of Uzbekistan every year partici-pate in the world ethnic festival "Koreada" in Seoul.
Jointly with the studio "Uzbekfilm" the Association created four documentaries: "Koreans of the Republic of Uzbekistan", "Chinsen - Dustlik", "Uzbekistan is Our Common Home" and "Henbok Means Happiness in the Korean Languages.
Branches of the Association are opened actually in all regions of the country.
