BULGARIAN CULTURAL CENTER OF TASHKENT CITY

History of the Bulgarians settling on the territory of Central Asia is going deep far the centuries. But during the last one and a half century the diaspora has expanded significantly, and the issue of revival and preservation of traditions, customs and culture of the Bulgarians living in Uzbekistan needed to be solved. In 1977 the initiative group on establishment of the Bulgarian Cultural Center was set up, and the Center was registered in 1999.
Now the Bulgarian center works actively, being initiator and organizer of several programs: folklore, cultural-educational and scientific-research. Study and promotion of the Bulgarian history and the Bulgarians of Uzbekistan, study of the Bulgarian language are going on within the folklore program.
This program is directed to revive traditions and customs of the Bulgarian people, it is concerned with ethnic literature and art, as well as with the history of na-tional costume.
Cultural-educational program closely connected with the educational and folklore ones was developed for cul-tural exchange with representatives of other diasporas of Uzbekistan, cooperation with its government and public structures. Folklore groups "Serdika", children's group "Sreshcha" (meeting), school-studio of ballroom dancing "lztok" (east) and "Prolyot" (spring) organized under the Center's guidance are popular in Tashkent.
There are other two programs the Center works at from 2001 - "Mercy" and "Health".
