Today Uzbekistani Ukrainians live in Tashkent, Almalyk, Angren, Akhangaran, Bekabad, Navoi, Zarafshan, Yanghiyul, Chirchik, Ferghana and other cities and towns of the republic.
First Ukrainian cultural centers appeared according to the places of their compact residence.
The republican Ukrainian cultural center "Slavutich" was created in August of 2001. It incorporated the Ukrainian cultural centers established earlier.
"Batkivshchina" - the first center in Uzbekistan which was set up in 1994 in Tashkent. That was the time when new history started for the Ukrainian diaspora.
"Batkivshchina" and "Slavutich" closely cooperate with friendship society "Uzbekistan-Ukraine" of the Council of Societies of Friendship and Cultural-Educational Relations of Uzbekistan with foreign countries, the World Ukrainian Coordinating Council in Kiev city, the World Congress of the Ukrainians in Canada.
In 2000 during the meeting of the presidents of Ukraine and Uzbekistan with the most active members of the Ukrainian center, in which representatives of other national cultural associations of Uzbekistan took part, the stone was placed near the building of the school-lyceum No.110 named after T.G.Shevchenko as a foundation for the future memorial to the great Kobza-player. The memorial, which has been created by L.G.Ryabtsev, a well-known sculpture, the Honoured Architect of Uzbekistan and active member of the Center, was officially opened in 2002.
Activity of the Ukrainian cultural centers is of diverse character. For example, in Yanghiyul town the Center publishes the newspaper in the Ukrainian language "Nadiya". In Tashkent delivers its activity the Sunday school.
Annual celebration of special days dedicated to Shevchenko's creative work, organizing of festivals of artistic groups "Ukrainian spiv" and exhibitions presenting works of Ukrainian painters have become a good tradition.
