TASHKENT CITY SOCIETY OF LITHUANIAN CULTURE

Тhe Tashkent City Society of Lithuanian Culture was organized in 1992. The main tasks of the Society's work comprise stu-dying of the Lithuanian language, culture, traditions, customs and their promotion, strengthening of peace and friendship between the peoples. With a view to achieve all these objectives, starting from 2000 the Sunday school works under the Society's auspices. Considerable attention is paid to such measures as arranging of Lithuanian festivities including Easter, Christmas, and Independence Day of Lithuania. There are also holidays of Lithuanian folklore and cuisine.
The Society regularly participates in cultural and edu-cational actions arranged by other centers, celebrations of national holidays of the Republic of Uzbekistan: Navruz, Independence Day, Constitution Day.
Maintaining relations with the historic motherland, the Society regularly receives papers and magazines from Lithuania. Two members of the Lithuanian diaspora were elected to the World Seym of the Lithuanians, and Tashkent Society is a member of the World Society of the Lithuanians. The Society maintains relations with the Uzbek Cultural Society in Lithuania.
The Lithuanian diaspora is not numerous, but the Society is known not only to all representatives of the diaspora but also to many peoples of other nationalities, who are frequent visitors of the Society.
